Pantone announces their Colour of the Year for 2017
Posted 15th February 2017
The ‘colour intelligence’ experts at Pantone have announced their Colour of the Year for 2017. And the winner is Greenery. Describing their choice, Pantone said: ‘A refreshing and revitalising shade, Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings’.
But what exactly is Greenery? It’s described as a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade, one that invokes the new life so common in the nature all around us. It’s the colour of new leaves bursting forth on the trees, colours that revive and inspire in equal measure.
Greenery is a neutral colour, calming and beautiful that puts us in a place of nature and serenity. It’s hoped that Greenery will make a big impact on our lives this year, being reflected in the urban planning, architecture and design choices that happen all around us.
Greenery is a life affirming colour, and one that encourages us to pursue our personal passions.
What is the Pantone colour of the year?
The Colour Institute at Pantone is one of the world’s leading authorities in colour. Each year they select a colour that they see is symbolic of the changes that are happening all around – in our global culture, moods and attitudes.
Their Executive Director, Leatrice Eiseman, had this to say about their choice for this year: ‘Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalise, Greenery symbolises the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose’.
Greenery colour pairings and contrasts
Greenery can be paired or contrasted with a number of other colours in the Pantone range. It works naturally with neutrals, brights, deeper shades and pastels. It works especially well with the Pantone colour of the year for 2016, Rose Quartz.
We expect to see combinations and crossovers of these colours throughout the next twelve months, in areas including fashion, beauty and product design.
